“As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man;

so are children of the youth.”  -Psalm 127

I’m excited to announce that my dad is launching a new business called Faith of a Family!

Faith of a Family is a Psalm 127:4 inspired business and is an offshoot of his blog faithofafather.com  The purpose of this site is to be an avenue to share resources for families and to help them share their faith with others.

This beautiful display set and family heirloom includes:

  • Handcrafted, authentic arrows with customized name engraving for each of your children.
  • A custom made leather quiver uniquely designed to hold up to 14 Arrows of Faith.
  • Display your family in a beautiful custom designed photo frame found only at www.faithofafamily.com.  Each frame is laser engraved with the Bible verse from Psalm 127:4 “As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.” (KJV) and stained in a rustic yet elegant barnwood color suitable for both brown or black decor.

This gorgeous piece will be a unique testament of your faith and desire to instill God’s Word into the lives of the children in your “quiver”.

This would a perfect Christmas gift for your parents, spouse and for a new or already established family.

I recommend to you the following posts from my dad’s blog on Psalm 127 and shaping arrows (children) of faith.

Women Living Well

My blogging friend Courtney, the one who held the Women Living Well conference in August, will be airing the conference sessions for FREE for the next few weeks. If you were unable to attend the conference (or even if you were) these videos will be worth your time to see. Not only do each of the speakers share from their expertise on marriage, family and ministry but there were also some wonderful Q&A sessions where they share real life stories and advice. And let me tell you, these ladies are FUNNY!

WomenLivingWell-crisp

Single ladies, this is a really good, free opportunity to prepare for marriage and family. There were so many helpful tips that I know I will keep in mind for later down the road

And the other exciting thing? Courtney has come out with an amazing book with the same name as her blog, and conference- Women Living Well.

I was fortunate enough to get an advanced copy. My book looks like it’s been around for a hundred years because of the way I marked it up, underlined and dogeared the pages. There were SO many great quotes and things I wanted to remember.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes:
IAm

“Have we forgotten the power of the “I”- not the ipad, the ipod or the iphone- but the great “I AM”"

“There are no “cookie-cutter” marriages. Our Biblical principles should match but each marriage is unique.”

“We must slow down and create calm moments…..when we do not slow down and rest we miss God’s voice.”

“Who we are at home is who we really are. Give your family the best of you.”

I’m going to be honest with you. I don’t usually read “real” books anymore. I usually go for the digital version and I usually pick something short and sweet. I guess that’s just the eGeneration I’ve grown up in. I loved Courtney’s book though. Her friend-to-friend writing style is easy to fall in love with. It is the perfect balance of light reading with deep truths. And the format of the book was divided into chapters with sub categories which made it easy to take in a little here and a little there.

This book is good for singles and marrieds alike. I love how there was a wide range of topics with so many amazing tips and biblical encouragments packed in to each.

“Women Living Well: Finding Your Joy in God, Your Man, Your Kids & Your Home” is a book that is well worth your time.

Pick up a hardcopy here or the ebook version here. Or check out your local Christian book store! The book should be in stores in just a few days!

Today I’d like to give you the opportunity to win a free copy of Women Living Well! Just enter below for your chance to win!

 applesauce bread

Our family loves this old fashion Applesauce Bread recipe!  When a warm loaf comes out of our oven it leaves our home smelling of fall, sweet spices and baked apples.

To begin set you oven to 350* and then gather together:

  • 1 1/4 cups of applesauce
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tablesppons milk

DSCN2809

Mix all of these wet ingredients into a medium sized bowl.  You can use store bought applesauce but our family likes to use homemade, chunky applesauce  in this recipe.

For one batch of applesauce simply slow cook 8 apples peeled, cored and sliced (we like Fuji apples) with 1 1/2 cups of water, 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, over low heat until soft.

DSCN2812

Next pull out:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice

DSCN2816Mix the flour mixture well.

DSCN2817

Combine both wet and dry ingredients and then pour the batter into a greased 9x5inch loaf pan.

DSCN2819

We like to add a special brown sugar crust topping.  You can either use store bought brown sugar or you can make your own by combining 1/3 cup of white sugar and 1 teaspoon of molasses.

DSCN2826

Sprinkle your homemade brown sugar over the top of the bread batter along with a small handful of dry oats and a sprinkling of cinnamon.

DSCN2834

Place in the oven and bake for 1 hour.  You can check to make sure your bread is done by inserting a tooth pick into the middle.  If it comes out clean your bread it ready. If the bread gets too dark while baking you can lightly cover it with foil.

Let the bread rest for at least 10 minutes before removing it from the pan.  You can serve the bread warm or room temperature.

DSCN2837

This is a perfect fall time recipe to be served with a cup of tea on a chilly day!  We like to add homemade apple butter to finish it off but it is good just by it’s self.

Natural Makeup Remover Giveaway!

Today one of our sponsors, Jackie, is sharing about her journey towards using natural products in her home and why she now sells these products.  She will also be doing a giveaway for us!  I will let her tell you all about it:

“Cleaning is usually a love-hate kind of thing for most women. Either we love it and hate the side-effects of the chemicals, or just plain dislike cleaning all together. I was always the “in-between” type of homemaker. You know, I loved the way the house smelled after using my pine cleaner, but didn’t like the feeling it left on my hands. Burning. That was it.

Fast forward about 10 years, and several years dealing with an asthmatic child. I knew something had to change, and choosing how to deal with chemicals in my home was at least one way that I could change on my own. That’s when a lovely woman I met at a holiday open house last year introduced me to something called an Enviro Cloth by a company she was very passionate about: Norwex.

“From our humble beginnings in Norway, focused on “cleaning without chemicals” to our most recent launch of Norwex in Australia, we remain dedicated to our mission of improving quality of life by radically reducing the use of chemicals in household and personal care products.”

EnviroCloth

She showed me how I could clean my home, top to bottom, with just these cloths and water. Seriously? After using them on a trial run for about 3 weeks, I absolutely LOVED them! Yes, a part of me was thinking, “What about my pine cleaner, don’t I need that?” Well, I no longer do. We use our Enviro Cloths for the kitchen, bathroom, you-name-it. Greasy glass top stove after cooking a batch of tacos? I just wet and wipe, and the grease is gone.

Not only is the Enviro Cloth one of my favorite go-to cleaning devices, I’ve now discovered these fabulous make-up cleansing cloths that clean my face with only, you guessed it, water. Simply moisten this super-soft, suede-like cloth with water and gently wipe your face. Waterproof mascara and eye shadow? Gone! Not only does it do a wonderful job of keeping my face clean, it also keeps me from adding any type of extra chemicals to the largest organ on my body: my skin.

306100-Makeup-Removal-Cloth

This is why I want to share Norwex products. I am passionate about changing the way I clean, and want to pass it on so that others may benefit. Today, I am sharing the love and blessing with one excited reader with a set of my favorite pampering cloths, the Make-Up Removal Cloths (set of 3)! My hope and prayer is that we would choose to live as God leads us, and know that everything we do for our family is guided by Him. Enjoy!”

I think this is a great giveaway!  I’m really excited because Jackie has offered to let me try out a set of makeup removal cloths too!  All you have to do to enter is follow the Rafflecopter instructions below!

Here is an ad from Norwix showing some of their products but their website has lots of things to choose from with a variety of prices.

The Dig

I’ve got another review and giveaway for you!

This time I’m giving away an ebook called “The Dig”.  This book is a part of a series and is a Bible study resource to help children walk through God’s Word.

As I reviewed this ebook I was impressed by the way the author, Patrick Schwenk (you may know his wife Ruth of The Better Mom), creatively articulates deep truths and doctrines in a way that is easy for young children.

In “The Dig” you will find 34 short lessons from the Gospel of Luke.  Each lesson points you to a scripture passage and then provides you with a kid friendly explanation of the verses you just read, along with a few discussion evoking questions.

This ebook devotional is doctrinally sound, Gospel centered and is an excellent resource for teaching children in a fun and memorable way!

While some of you may have families and children probably a lot of you are like me, serving the Lord during our time of singleness.

Why would I be recommending this ebook to predominately single women?

It occrued to me when I first heard about “The Dig” that this isn’t a book just for parents.  This would be a wonderful mentoring tool for those who teach children in Sunday school or for those who want to hold Bible clubs as a witnessing opportunity in their neighborhood or city.  It would also be a great idea to use this Bible study as a fun, learning activity for the children you Nanny or babysit for!

As a single woman you can really be used to have a big impact on the lives of young children.  I would encourage you to consider using “The Dig” for this purpose!

I will be giving away a copy of volume 2 of “The Dig”.  You can find Volume 1 here and I recommend checking it out but volume 2 can be used as a stand alone Bible study.

Modesty Reminder and Shabby Apple Giveaway!

Spring is here and I’d like to make a friendly modesty reminder.

Even though the weather is getting warmer let’s all make an effort to respect ourselves and our brothers in Christ by dressing modestly.

Your body is a beautiful thing made by our Creative God.  It’s nothing to be ashamed of but it is something precious that should be protected and saved.

Our highest call as Christians is to love God and Love others.  Let’s strive to do that by being careful to dress modestly.

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”  -Matthew 22

Looking for more modesty Tips and Resources?

I’m also really excited that I have the opportunity to give away a $15 Gift Certificate to Shabby Apple!

For a long time I have admired their pretty, modest, vintage inspired dresses and jewelry.  I’m a little bit jealous of whoever wins this great prize!  :-)

Follow this link to take a look at their line of modest clothing.
