Have you ever found a cute skirt or dress that was just a few inches too short? Or maybe you’ve had the unfortunate experience of shrinking your favorite dress in the wash (been there done that).
I’ve found a great solution to add on the few extra inches. A skirt extender! Turn a simple half slip into a must have accessory.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 1 half slip
- Lace or eyelet of your choice (enough to go around the bottom of the slip plus a little extra)
- Fabric bonding adhesive Velcro
Lay your skirt out flat. Take the Velcro pieces and put the sets together so the adhesive sides are out. Strategically place the adhesive Velcro around the bottom edge of the skit. Using Velcro will allow you to take off the extender when you don’t need it. I would recommend having the fuzzy side of the Velcro on the slip so when you are not using the extender the rough side of the Velcro won’t catch on the inside of your skirt.
Next take the lace or eyelet and lay it on top of the Velcro. Press hard on the Velcro so the adhesive sticks well to the fabrics. I would recommend having the end pieces of the lace meet and overlap at the back of the slip. If the type of lace or eyelet you are using tends to fray at the ends try putting a little Elmer’s glue on the edge to keep it from unraveling.
Now try your new skirt extender on with your favorite skirt! A skirt extender is the perfect thing to add a little flair and a great modesty solution for your skirts and dresses.
Have you ever used a skirt extender before? Do you have any other tips for making a dress or skirt more modest?
